Barb Warnick began her teaching career at Purdy in 1998, and over the years, she has woven herself into the very fabric of the school community. With so many cherished memories, she finds it impossible to choose just one as her favorite—each moment has added to a fulfilling and memorable career. For Barb, the best part of being an Eagle has been the strong sense of community. She treasures the close-knit bonds formed within grade levels and across the school, feeling grateful to be part of a team that supports one another like family. As she steps away from the classroom, what she’ll miss most are the students and her fellow teachers and administrators. Teaching has been her identity for so long that it will be a real adjustment not seeing the familiar faces she’s come to know and love every day. However, she won’t miss the early mornings or the mountain of paperwork that comes with the job. Barb hopes her impact on students will be lasting—that she helped spark a love for reading or at least helped them enjoy it. More than anything, she hopes every student who passed through her classroom knew that she truly cared about them and always wanted the best for them. If she could offer a bit of wisdom to her younger self, it would be to find a healthy balance between work and home life, to savor each day, and to understand just how quickly time passes. Now, as she heads into retirement, Barb is looking forward to new projects and precious time with family. She plans to remodel her home, spend quality time with her granddaughter and daughter, and take a few well-deserved trips. More than anything, she’s ready to embrace and enjoy all that retirement life has to offer. #EagleExcellence

Glenn Terry began his career at Purdy Schools in January of 1996 and has been a dedicated part of the Eagle family ever since. One of his favorite memories during his time at Purdy involves a moment of unexpected comedy—watching Kimberly Utter proudly walk with a large iced coffee, only to run into a wooden door and spill it everywhere. For Glenn, being an Eagle wasn’t just a job; it was a way of life. “I’ve always been an Eagle,” he says. “It’s a good place to be.” Over the years, he built strong relationships with the staff, who he says will be the part of school he misses the most. However, one thing he won’t miss? The after-hours calls—especially from Josh Hughes and a few others who didn’t mind reaching out beyond the school day. Glenn hopes his legacy is one of a strong work ethic and a positive example for students. He’s proud of the attitude and values he brought to his role, and the message he leaves behind is simple: show up, work hard, and lead by example. If he could go back and give his younger self advice, it would be this: Retire earlier—don’t stay working for too long. As he steps into retirement, Glenn looks forward to working for himself at the farm, trading school bells for early mornings and fresh air. #EagleExcellence

Kay Wright began her journey at Purdy in August of 1988. Reflecting on her time there, she doesn’t point to a single standout memory but rather a collection of experiences that have brought her joy and fulfillment. From the excitement of Senior Trips and the camaraderie she shared as a Cheer Coach, to the proud moments watching her cheerleaders perform at halftime in Arrowhead, Kay has been a part of countless treasured memories. She fondly recalls accompanying students to State and National FBLA competitions and cherishes the spark of understanding in a student’s eyes when they finally grasp a difficult concept or achieve a hard-earned goal. What Kay has loved most about being part of the Eagle family is witnessing the pride and joy that come with student success. She has taken great satisfaction in watching students learn, grow, and thrive, all while being surrounded by a team of dedicated educators who shared the same mission. As she looks ahead, Kay knows she will deeply miss being around the students—the daily interactions, the lessons planned and taught, the FBLA activities and competitions, and the simple, meaningful conversations with her fellow teachers. Her classroom and her interactions with Dewey also hold a special place in her heart. However, one thing she certainly won’t miss is the daily drive over the dreaded speed bumps. In reflecting on her impact, Kay hopes she leaves behind a legacy of honesty, integrity, and passion. She aspired to model the value of hard work and the importance of perseverance, showing students and colleagues alike that success often comes through challenges and that mistakes are just stepping stones to growth and improvement. If she could offer advice to her younger self, it would be to better balance work and personal life—an insight gained through years of dedication and experience. As she enters retirement, Kay looks forward to finally tackling those “someday when I have time” tasks. Her plans include working more hours at AH Trucking, tending to her yard (and her friends’ yards), spending quality time with her mom, and perhaps traveling a bit. She’s especially excited about the freedom to shop on quiet weekday mornings and to simply do whatever she wants, whenever she wants.
